SWING PDF Converter enables Lotus Notes users and application developers to export Lotus Notes documents and emails into standard PDF format for sharing, archiving, or web printing.

July 06, 2009

SWING Software announces today the release of SWING PDF Converter for Lotus Notes - a software tool for Notes email and document archiving, sharing and web printing.

The basic idea behind the product is to make the PDF conversion an integral feature of the Lotus Notes client, or Notes/Domino applications. It doesn’t require a client side installation of a printer driver nor DLL files.

For end-users and administrators: Deployment is as easy as sending an email to users. SWING PDF Converter adds the PDF icon to the Lotus Notes toolbar, which lets users convert one or more Notes documents or emails. The user experience is fully customizable.

For application developers: LotusScript API is provided. Developers can enhance the out-of-the-box toolbar functionality, or can grab the PDF Converter libraries and insert them into any Notes or Domino application, using the PDF Converter as a software component in their solutions.

SWING PDF Converter introduces greatly simplified email archiving (and document archiving) capabilities to Lotus Notes and Domino. It creates PDF Packages from any email or document collection. A single PDF Package consists of any number of documents (or email messages) with their corresponding attachments. It also contains a view, so users can sort, search and navigate through documents/emails with ease - all this inside Adobe Reader.

Lotus Notes users can easily archive all documents and emails related to a project, case, or a customer into a single PDF Package. These PDF archives can be used independently or as a part of a corporate records repository for legal discovery and business uses. Because they are platform independent, they can be viewed or printed on any computer by authorized users.

Developers can also create server-based agents using the LotusScript API. Agents can be scheduled to produce PDF files unattended.

Domino web developers can use SWING PDF Converter to create print-quality output from their web applications.

The new release of SWING DocPublisher – agile content management software – helps organizations publish and maintain internal documentation, such as policies and procedures, product specifications and knowledge bases.

December 7, 2005 - SWING Software today announced the availability of SWING DocPublisher 2 – agile content management software for IBM Lotus Domino. The new release improves the way companies organize, distribute and maintain their documentation online.

SWING DocPublisher targets companies that are standardized on Microsoft Office and Lotus Domino. Unlike traditional document libraries, DocPublisher automatically converts Word documents into web content, so no additional skills are required to publish to corporate intranets and websites. Original Word documents are retained for future updates.

“There are many companies that are faced with a dilemma: Office document libraries or pure web content. Now they can have both,” said David Jakelic, CEO of SWING Software. “We believe that SWING DocPublisher will change the way key documentation is published company-wide.”

SWING DocPublisher provides a secure, permissions-based access to documents, convenient in-place draft editing, and version control capabilities. It controls the entire document life cycle: creation, review, approval, publishing, notifications, expirations, archiving, new revisions, and user feedback.

Once the documents are published in a browser-readable format, end users can easily find needed information using only web browsers on any platform. They navigate through the DocPublisher’s library in a familiar way: with an Explorer-like table of contents, search, and cross-referenced topics.

The key new features include:

Custom categories and properties (metadata), plus custom views. This provides means of classifying and browsing documents in the library according to taxonomies that differ from the one implied by the folder structure.

Outline promotion. When a Word document is being published, its outline view can be promoted to the navigation frame for easier navigation throughout the document.

Property promotion. Data exchange between Word document properties and DocPublisher document properties.

Workflow routing, including email notifications in the edit/review/approval process.

Document history with audit trail.

RSS-based subscription to new or updated documents.

Separate headers/footers for display and print.

Bulk export. Companies can easily export the entire or any part of their DocPublisher libraries to disk, making the transition from DocPublisher to any other system as easy as possible. As a result, the risk of product lock-in has been removed.

Usability improvements (Ajax-based).

Pricing and Availability

SWING DocPublisher 2 is available today directly from www.swingsoftware.com and from SWING Software’s authorized resellers. Pricing starts at $995 for one server and one publisher license, which includes an unlimited number of readers. License packs and volume discounts are also available.

February 7, 2005 - SWING Software today announced the release of SWING DocPublisher, content publishing software for IBM Lotus Domino. SWING DocPublisher simplifies publishing of Office documents to corporate intranets and websites. It enables business users to distribute and maintain internal documentation, such as policies and procedures manuals, training materials, and knowledge bases.

“In about ten minutes, non-technical professionals can become productive with SWING DocPublisher. Document authors can use Microsoft Word, so no knowledge of HTML is required to publish to the web,” said David Jakelic, CEO of SWING Software. “Other users need only a web browser to be able to read, search, and navigate through published documentation in a familiar way: just like with e-Books or Windows Help. This assures quick adoption throughout an organization.”

SWING DocPublisher is an out-of-the box solution which does not require training and implementation costs. It leverages existing MS Word documents, publishes them as web content, and retains them in the original format for effortless updating. Examples of its usage include:

At departmental level - Training materials, best practices, call center scripts, project documentation, safety manuals.

Company wide - Standard operating policies and procedures (SOP), business continuity and disaster recovery plans, employee handbooks, job descriptions, quality manuals.

On the Internet - Document libraries that are available to partners and customers, such as product specifications, frequently asked questions and knowledge bases.

The key features and benefits include:

Online document library for MS Word documents. Library features include version control, user permissions, document locking, convenient in-place draft editing, review and approval.

Instant online publishing. Automatically converts Word documents to browser-viewable content.

Enables non-technical users to publish and update information online.

Easy book-style navigation and search through online documentation.

Enforces document consistency by using document templates.

Online documentation can include additional files (e.g. video, sound, spreadsheets) in their native formats.

Email notifications, periodic reviews and document expiration are features which ensure that the documentation is easily distributed and is always current.

Collects users’ feedback so the organization can continuously improve its policies and procedures.
